7th Grade Art

Curriculum & Student Work

Paint Exploration

In this short lesson, students will explore different methods of working with paint. By using different tools, students will gain experience working with the medium and will have the opportunity to explore their own artistic styles. The students will be encouraged to come up with a variety of ways to use the painting tools that are provided.

The lesson begins with an observational activity in which students will look at paintings from a variety of artists and describe the artwork both written and verbally. The artworks include artists: Dina Chhan, Jim Dine, Andrew Hem, Ashante Kindle, Alex Rubio, and Jerod.

Still Life Pop Art Painting

Students analyzed and discussed a variety of artworks from the Pop Art Movement uncovering the design elements of Pop Art. Then, students created Pop Art style paintings of an object that impacts their daily life or holds personal meaning using acrylic paint. Throughout this project, students practiced their observational drawing and color mixing skills.

Ceramic Food Plates

Students made a ceramic plate that could be used in everyday life and appeared to be a type of food they feel connected to. This clay project incorporates ceramic skill building, aspects of realism, and personal connection.

Digital Mosaics

After looking at a brief history of mosaics, students used Google Drawing to create digital mosaics of their choice.
